Robinson traveled some 250 miles from far downstate Illinois to Chicago to compete in the 1964 Illinois State Tournament, and faced two leagues from Chicago and a third league from a suburb bordering the city. Nonetheless, solid defense and timely hitting helped Robinson come away with a 2-1 title-game upset of Mount Greenwood National. The 1964 Robinson team was the last Section 1 team to win the Illinois State Tournament.
