Championship Game:
Kankakee Jaycees 4, Tinley Park 2 (TITLE)
The Kankakee Jaycees hit only two home runs through District, Sectional, and State Tournament competition, but one of those homers was Dana Nafzinger's two-run shot in the second inning of the state championship game, and it propelled the Jaycees to the title. Nafzinger also was responsible for driving in the other two Kankakee runs, one of which scored when he reached on an error with two outs in the third inning, and the other of which scored on his two-out single in the fifth. Jeff Scott and L.C. Nutall dominated on the mound for Kankakee: Scott tossed a two-hitter and allowed only an unearned run in the semifinal win over Marion, while Nutall outdueled Tinley Park's Mike Kraft in an eight strikeout, four-hit title game performance. Both Tinley Park runs were unearned. Prior to allowing the three unearned runs in the state tournament, Kankakee had allowed only one run and 11 hits in District and Sectional tournament competition.
The Jaycees would go on to win the North Region Tournament, but dropped their opening round game in the World Series to the West New York American (NJ) LL.
