The Kankakee Jaycees overcame 1-0, 4-1, and 6-5 defecits before finally disposing of Rock Island American on Rusty Walker's bloop RBI single to left field in the top of the seventh inning of their semifinal victory, and then rebounded from an early 1-0 defecit to beat Clear Ridge East 3-1 for the state title. Title game victor Greg Wilson earned his fourth win along the tournament trail, scattering four hits and allowing only one unearned run. Walker was again the offensive hero, lining a two-run double off the left-field fence to snap a 1-1 tie in the third. The win gave the Jaycees their record fifth state title, a mark that still stands today.

As the winner of the two-team District 2 tournament, Tuscola was placed in the District 17 semifinals. Pittsfield won that tournament.
