Harwood Heights 6, Chicago Westlawn 3 (TITLE)
Southpaw Jack Luchetti fanned 16 and Harwood Heights snapped a 1-1 tie with a five run fifth innning rally to prevent Westlawn from winning consecutive state titles. In that fifth inning, five consecutive Harwood Heights batters drove in runs as the rally slowly built. Mark Fritsch started the barrage with a bases-loaded RBI hit, and he later came around to score the fourth run of the inning. In their semifinal win, Tom Tichy scattered four hits and recorded 12 strikeouts as Harwood Heights downed North Jacksonville. Westlawn used three big innings (three in the first, seven in the fourth, and five in the sixth) to win a battle between the two most recent Illinois state champions. Greg Blazik was alternately hittable and unhittable, as he struck out 15 but allowed eight hits in his complete game victory.

As the winner of the two-team District 2 tournament, Paris was placed in the District 17 semifinals. Jacksonville North defeated Paris 14-5 in that semifinal round game.
