Don Cortson escaped from numerous jams, and, after a 1-2-3 first, Palatine South scored in every inning as it won the state title en route to a berth in the World Series at Williamsport. After allowing three first-inning runs and escaping trouble in the second, Cortson stranded eight Bradley-Bourbonnais runners over the final four innings. Jim Kating's third-inning home run gave Palatine South the lead for good, while B.J. Jenkins contributed an RBI single in the second and a two-run homer in the fourth.

As the winner of the two-team District 2 tournament, Paris was placed in the District 17 semifinals. Quincy North defeated Paris 8-3 in that semifinal round game.
