In the first inning of Elgin National's title game victory, manager Bob Nelson unconsciously touched a hand to his face. On the next pitch, baserunner Calvin Parham was caught trying to steal second -- Nelson had accidentally flashed the steal sign. Still, Elgin didn't miss a beat, as they methodically built a 5-1 lead, and stifled a LaGrange American mini-rally in the sixth with a game-ending double play. Elgin National was led by Mike Casten (a fifth inning two-run homer that broke open a 2-1 game), Todd Opsahl (a sixth inning homer that was the first of his Little League career), and Brian Corn (a four hit, eight strikeout complete game). In their semifinal victory, Elgin National took advangage of 14 walks issued by Ottawa National pitchers, and used a six-run first inning (the first eight hitters reached base safely) and an 11-run fifth to crush Ottawa National.

As the winner of the two-team District 2 tournament, Paris was placed in the District 17 semifinals. Quincy North defeated Paris 9-5 in that semifinal round game.
