After blasting Milton (19-0) and Shrewsbury (19-3) in the Section 2 Tournament, Middleboro was unaccustomed to playing tight, low-scoring games -- yet that's what they got in their wins over Pittsfield South and Lowell Callery. In the extra-inning semifinal win over Pittsfield South, Middleboro ace Kevin "Bruno" Brower allowed an RBI single in the first, then threw no-hit ball the rest of the way to keep Middleboro in the game. Meanwhile, Pittsfield South starter Ryan Cullen didn't allow a Middleboro hit until the fifth inning, when Daryl Bradford led off the inning with a single and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Middleboro pulled ahead in the top of the seventh. Joe Moles drew a one-out walk and moved to third on two wild pitches. With two outs, ninth-place hitter Brandon Soule flared a single into short left field to score Moles. Middleboro then beat Lowell Callery for the title. Middleboro went on to win the East Region Tournament in Bristol, CT (coming through the losers bracket to win its last three games), and advanced to the World Series in Williamsport.
