5'1" Blair Collins used a big sweeping curveball to outduel 6'1" Garry Toczko and his blazing fastball and lead DuBois to its first ever state title. Collins struck out ten and allowed only three hits, while his teammates took advantage of seven Roosevelt Trail errors to key their rallies.

DuBois opened the scoring in the third when hits by Bill McKee and Bruce Nesbitt, along with two errors and a hit batsman, gave DuBois a 3-0 lead. Nesbitt scored in the fifth on an error, and Roger Myers came around on Randy Liddle's double. Three more RTL errors plated two runs in the sixth.

In the semifinals, Nesbitt was 3-for-3 at the plate, scored three runs, and drove in four to pace DuBois in its rout of Sharon American. Five walks and four hits in a nine-run fifth inning rally put the game out of reach. Roosevelt Trail advanced by blowing out Avon Grove 11-0. Winning pitcher Mike Smith struck out 12 and scattered four hits, while Smith's three run homer in the fifth and Toczko's two run blast in the sixth paced the offensive attack.

In the consolation game, Avon Grove topped Sharon American 8-5 in the first night game in Pennsylvania state tournament history.
