Summary:
A five run rally with two outs in the third inning of the title game propelled Williamsport Newberry to its second state title in five years. Greenville jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the championship contest before Newberry catcher Al Cipriani was called in to pitch with two outs in the top of the first inning. Cipriani scattered four hits and allowed three runs the rest of the way as Newberry recovered from the slow start to pick up the win. In the third, Cipriani homered to tie thhe game at 3-3, then Tim Beattie's RBI single and first baseman Mike White's three-run homer capped the rally.
In the semifinals, Newberry pitcher Rob Williams fired a two-hitter, struck out 13, and rapped a solo home run in the first inning to lead his club past Minersville. In the other contest, Greenville trailed York 6-1 before a seven run third inning outburst gave the Section 1 champs the victory.
