Connellsville became the first Pennsylvania league ever to win three consecutive state titles with an 8-3 triumph over Old Forge. 5'10" first baseman/pitcher Mark Blackstone led Connellsville to its state tournament victories by driving in all of his team's runs in the 6-5 semifinal round victory over Newberry and then hurling a complete game in the championship game.
In the semifinals, Blackstone hit a two-run homer in the first inning, singled in a run in the third (slicing Newberry's lead to 4-3), and put his team ahead for good with a three-run homer in the fifth. Newberry had jumped to an early lead by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Blackstone took to the mound in the title game, and held Old Forge to five hits. He also hit a three-run homer and scored three runs. Connellsville pulled away by scoring seven runs over the course of the third and fourth innings. Greg Lonigro had three singles for Connellsville.
