The Rhode Island State Tournament

Despite Rhode Island's distinction as one of the smaller states in the U.S., Little League Baseball has developed a strong presence in the Ocean State. There are over 30 chartered leagues in Rhode Island, and these leagues are organized into four districts. In all-star competition, the winners of the four district tournaments meet in a double-elimination state tournament that determines the Rhode Island champion. The tournament was originally a single-elimination event, but switched to a double-elimination format in 1985.

Rhode Island's champion advances to the Metro Region tournament, and the Metro Region winner advances to the Little League World Series. Rhode Island had previously advanced to the Eastern Region tournament through 2000, and to the New England Region tournament through 2021.

Twelve Rhode Island teams have participated in the Little League World Series, including Smithfield Little League in 2023. Cranston Western achieved Rhode Island's best-ever finish at the Little League World Series, winning the U.S. championship in 1996.
