2008 News Headlines

(July 20, 2008) -- We've been pretty quiet in this space since the start of this year's tournament, largely because we wanted to focus on cranking through the results pouring in from around the world. That radio silence doesn't extend to other points on the web, however, as a number of state and region tournaments are offering live audio and video feeds of their tournament games. Visit our coverage of the Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, and Washington state tournaments for links to live feeds from those respective state tournaments. The Canadian Region tournament is also scheduled to have a live feed when it gets underway next month.

One of the webcasts from Georgia's state tournament will feature a game that carries a bit of history -- when Warner Robins American and Columbus Northern Little Leagues square off on Tuesday, the two most recent Little League World Series champions will meet. Our records do not extend to international tournament games in Taiwan, but outside of games on that island, this is the first meeting of the two most recent titleholders in at least 50 years. Gametime is set for 5:00 p.m. at Shoal Creek Park in Decatur, and the action can be heard live on Northern Little League's website.

(June 8, 2008) -- June 15 is just days away, and we've begun our coverage of the main portion of Little League Baseball's 2008 international tournament for the major baseball division. As we have for over a decade, we will bring you results from tournaments around the U.S. and Canada, beginning with early round district games and culminating in the final steps on the road to Williamsport. Thousands of teams will enter the tournament at this stage, and in a few short weeks we will be down to just sixteen teams worldwide when the Little League World Series opens on August 15.

As always, we rely on our visitors to help us stay up-to-date, so if you can provide results or pairings that are not listed on this site, please contact the Unpage.

(May 1, 2008) -- District tournaments are underway in Japan, and we have begun our coverage of the 2008 Japanese Region tournament -- click for details.

(April 29, 2008) -- We've added to our coverage of last year's tournament, with summaries from state tournaments in Hawaii, Iowa, Texas East, Texas West, and Vermont, as well as the Japanese Region tournament -- click for details.

(April 6, 2008) -- Our coverage of tournament action in Australia continues, and Victoria's Waverley Little League is the latest team to advance to the national tournament following a 13-3, five inning victory over the Eastern Sluggers at the Cheltenham Baseball Club's facilities near Melbourne. State champions have been crowned in four states, and Queensland jumps into the fray beginning this Friday.

We've also added to our coverage of last year's tournament, with new summaries from state tournaments in Indiana, Maryland, and Nevada -- click for details.

(March 2008) -- While many parts of the U.S. are still thawing out from the winter weather, 2008 international tournament play is well underway in Australia, where leagues from around the Southland are competing for that country's national championship and a berth in the Asia-Pacific Region tournament this June in Hong Kong. Australia has had a handful of chartered leagues over the years, but the Australian Baseball Federation aligned itself with Little League Baseball last fall, and nearly three dozen leagues have been chartered and are taking part in this year's tournament.

We'll be reporting results from this and other tournaments as we take you from the earliest rounds of competition all the way to the doorstep of this year's Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

While you will see periodic reports in the coming weeks from Australia and Japan, where tournament play will being in April, we haven't forgotten about last year's tournament. In the coming weeks, you will see summaries of the action from all of the states, regions, and countries in our coverage areas. We'll start with our initial summaries of last year's state tournaments in Florida, Maine, and Oregon -- click for details.
